Horses are flight animals. Their survival depends upon their extraordinary ability to recognize subtle changes in their environment and to respond when something doesn't feel safe.

Humans have many of the same physiological survival responses.

Join Dr. Amy Nelson, ND and explore the human stress response through the unique lens of the horse!

  • Evidenced-informed education on stress physiology and the nervous system

Flight Animal: The Horse-Human Nervous System Program

A six-class program combining nervous-system education with hands-on learning alongside horses.

Class 1 — Safety: Understanding the Flight Animal
Class 2 — Awareness: Learning to Notice
Class 3 — Regulation: Finding Neutral
Class 4 — Boundaries: Pressure & Release
Class 5 — Trust: Connection Without Control
Class 6 — Integration: Moving Forward

Flight Animal classes are held once a week for six weeks.

Each class combines a short discussion about human physiology with ground-based exercises involving the horses.

No riding or previous horse experience is required.

The Bond

Connection with horses develops into partnership. This bond outlasts the test of time. Horses are strong, reactive and fast and working with them requires utmost self-control. To rehabilitate a horse, you start with rehabilitating yourself. You understand how another animal experiences the world and then you become the factor for positive change. If you love horses and want to learn how to work with them in a safe, peaceful and informed way, then this program is for you.
